Research with Families

  • Parents’ schema diaries (children 4 – 6 years). This Parents’ Group met regularly during the course of one term to share ideas about ways of supporting their children’s mathematics from infancy to 8 years
  • Holiday mathematical interest diaries – children 7 – 8 years. Diaries kept during one summer vacation by parents of older children provided insights into their mathematical interests at home
  • Group parents’ study. Thirty-one parents (mothers and fathers) of children 4 – 6 years completed questionnaires on their children’s informal mathematics at home, and on their own mathematical experiences of learning and using mathematics
