Comments from
teachers' and practitioners' course evaluations 2011
Brent Local Authority: ‘Young
Mathematicians Calculate’: 4th February, 2011
How will you use the outcomes of
this session (in the short and long term)?
- Forming short and long term
plans for involving other adults
- Organise parent/carer
workshop and have a focus on up-skilling practicalities to the
value of children’s mathematical mark-making
- Greater emphasis on
developing mathematical thinking and representations
- This session will impact on
my practice – in terms of promoting an ethos/culture which
encourages and promotes children’s graphical representations
- Continue the good practice in
the setting
- Think about my modelling and
using problem solving to get children mark making in maths
- Less teacher guidance – hold
back and let them explain or not!
- Make it relevant –
interesting to the children
- Has really made me think
about my approach to teaching and how to support children’s
thinking using graphics
Other comments:
- Some of the reflective
sessions seemed very interlinked, as people say what it is they
want to improve in each section
- Really enjoyed all elements,
especially the way it was broken down into different groupings
- Has given me more confidence
and has made it more clear what I need to do in order to
encourage my children to represent and explain their methodology
and their thinking and mathematics
- Looking forward to Redcliffe
visit in March
